Saugerties Stallions Roll Past Glens Falls Dragons, 13-3, Behind Explosive Fourth Inning
The Saugerties Stallions surged to a commanding 13-3 victory over the Glens Falls Dragons on July 10 at East Field, powered by a seven-run fourth inning and a relentless offensive attack that produced 15 hits and flawless defense.
The Stallions wasted little time getting on the board, striking for two runs in the top of the first inning. Cooper Schmidt led off with a run, scoring on a triple by Christian Bernanardini, who then came home on a sacrifice fly by Steven Ramirez. After a scoreless second, the Dragons trimmed the lead in the third when Jack Ploppert scored on a groundout by Shane Hoover, making it 2-1.
The game’s decisive moment came in the fourth inning, when Saugerties sent 11 batters to the plate and erupted for seven runs. The rally began with Magnus Krieger drawing a walk and Mike Cuello singling, followed by Aiden Schmidt reaching on an error to load the bases. Cooper Schmidt delivered a two-run single to extend the lead to 4-1. After another walk and a run-scoring free pass by Steven Ramirez, Danny Surowiec drew a bases-loaded walk to force in another run. Ryan Recio then singled to left, driving in two more, and Aiden Schmidt capped the outburst with an RBI single, pushing the margin to 9-1.
With a comfortable lead, the Stallions continued to apply pressure. In the sixth, Ryan Recio launched a two-run homer, scoring Danny Surowiec and stretching the advantage to 11-1. The Dragons answered with two runs in the bottom half: Shane Hoover and Rene Vega both crossed the plate on RBI singles by Jack Rigabar and Tyler Worth, but the deficit remained substantial at 11-3.
Saugerties added insurance in the seventh. Magnus Krieger singled and scored on Cooper Schmidt’s RBI single, and Christian Bernanardini doubled to left to plate Schmidt, bringing the final tally to 13-3.
The Stallions’ lineup featured contributions up and down the order. Cooper Schmidt starred at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Christian Bernanardini reached base three times, finishing 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, two runs, two RBIs, and a walk. Ryan Recio drove in four runs, including his two-run homer, while Aiden Schmidt and Magnus Krieger each chipped in two hits and combined for three runs and an RBI.
Steven Ramirez and Danny Surowiec both collected two RBIs apiece despite not recording a hit, thanks to productive outs and patience at the plate. Ethan Stipp and Jack Beyl also added hits as the Stallions’ offense kept the pressure on all night, capitalizing on two errors and seven walks issued by the Dragons’ pitching staff.
On the mound, Saugerties got a strong start from Matthew Drillings, who tossed two scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out two. Ryan Mayer followed with three innings of one-run ball, working around four walks and striking out three. Ryder Herchenroder closed out the final two frames, yielding two runs on four hits but preserving the double-digit lead.
For Glens Falls, Rene Vega and Tyler Worth were bright spots, each collecting multiple hits. Worth finished 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Vega went 2-for-2 with a run and a walk. Jack Rigabar and Shane Hoover each added an RBI, but the Dragons struggled to string together offense against the Stallions’ pitching trio.
The Dragons’ pitching staff had difficulty containing the Stallions’ bats. Starter Frederick Bornn allowed four runs (all earned) on six hits over three innings. Reliever Kyle Fives was tagged for five runs in just two-thirds of an inning, and the bullpen could not stem the tide as Saugerties continued to build its lead.
Defensively, Saugerties played error-free baseball, while Glens Falls was hampered by two miscues in the field, contributing to the Stallions’ big innings.
The Stallions’ 13-3 win was highlighted by their explosive fourth inning, consistent offensive production, and steady pitching. Saugerties never trailed, outscoring the Dragons in five of seven innings and holding Glens Falls to just three runs on eight hits.
